The Real New Year’s Resolution: Write Every Day
No Comments

A week or so ago, I said that this was my new year’s resolution, or rather, it was “a” new year’s resolution. This is still true. I am still not looking at my phone while waiting for or riding in an elevator. As a friend pointed out, this means that I am using that time to just stare at people staring at their phones but, hey, it’s the principle of the thing.

But that’s not the new year’s resolution that I am passionate about. My real one is to write in this blog every day. The reason I didn’t announce it is because a) I wasn’t sure that I would be able to keep it up and b) I wasn’t sure if anyone would really care.

But I’m telling you now. Why? Because I need to write a blog post today and I’ve got nothing.

I am going to break my rule about not writing about writing (I talked about it here). I’ve been keeping this topic in my back pocket to write as a blog post almost like the free space on a Bingo card. I was going to write this on the 31st of this month, after I had done it consistently for the entire month of January, but I had a long day today, so, I’m writing it now.

I should also mention that I’m going to give myself permission to write badly. So, if you continue to read what I write and one day, in the future you read a post and think, “well, what the hell was that?” Just know that I’m trying to create content every day and it’s not all going to be gold.

It’s not that it’s hard to write, it’s that it’s hard to write things that I think people will actually want to read. (This post, for example, I consider right on the borderline.) I can crank out a lot of stream of consciousness stuff and post it here but, frankly, I want you to return. This is already a blog about me and my opinions, so, by reading at all you’re meeting me halfway.

If you’ve read this far, thank you. I’ll try to write things that are worth your while to read. Now I have to go find a stock photo that just screams “writer!” for the main image. Good night and have a great week.
