A New Year’s Resolution
No Comments

I have one New Year’s resolution. It’s something that I’ve been working on anyway. It’s kind of specific and it may seem kind of inconsequential but I believe in it and I wish other people would follow my lead.

Here it is. Are you ready?

I won’t look at my cell phone while I’m waiting for or riding in an elevator.

Sounds dumb right? But the next time you’re waiting for an elevator, look around. Everyone around you will be looking down at the smart phone in their hands, necks bent, thumbs scrolling. Once you see it, it’s hard not to notice it.

Whenever I’ve been one of those people, I was never looking at anything interesting. I was just checking email or social media.

New Year’s resolutions are usually either too large in scope to continue or too small to remember but I don’t want to distract myself just because I happen to have a validation toy in my pocket at all times.
