T-Minus Three Days Until the Brooklyn Half
No Comments

My right foot feels a little wonky but I ran on it this morning – three miles before work – and it felt okay. Whether it’s one hundred percent or not, I’m running 13.1 miles on it on Saturday.

I went to Brooklyn Bridge Park tonight in a light rain to pick up my bib and my Brooklyn Half shirt. My girlfriend says wearing the shirt during the race is kind of like wearing the t-shirt of the band you’re going to see. But I’ve seen people running in the Brooklyn Half and Bronx Half (or maybe full?) shirts so much that I really don’t care. I’ll be wearing mine on race day.

I also bought Body Glide and a pack of Nip Guards. Oh yeah, those are capitalized because they’re brand names. I know they sound like accessories for a weekend on Fire Island but they’re going to come in handy on Saturday.

I feel like I’ve been studying for a final and now I’m wondering how prepared I really am. I thought that I was following a Hal Higdon-esque training program. I was running three times a week with the long run on the weekends, slowly increasing mileage week by week. I just looked at the training program again and I missed the “2 mile run or cross” parts.

But during my training, I ran over ten miles twice. I ran a really strong 10K. I trained as hard as I ever have. Now I just have to run the damn thing. My friend Todd told me the race is the reward for training. And I’m telling you all that cinnamon pancakes from Champs Diner in Williamsburg will be my reward for the race.

After one of my long runs, like ten plus miles, I stopped and stretched. Then I decided to run the last mile or so home. And my legs felt like lead coated rubber. So, we’ll see how those last three miles feel when I don’t stop.

I’m shooting for under two hours. I’ll let you know how it goes.
